• Welcome to HOF Grids

    • All data found on this site is from Baseball-Reference.com and/or Stathead.com, which are products of Sports Reference LLC (Sports-Reference.com).
    • JAWS (Jaffe Wins Above Replacement Score) is a statistical metric created by Jay Jaffe, author of The Cooperstown Casebook.

    • Introducing Cumulative Prime Value (CPV), a new measure for recommending induction, as a Player, to the National Baseball Hall Of Fame.
      • On the CPV page, you'll find rationale for CPV.
      • On the Grids page, you'll find data Grids and Charts, by Position and by Player, that highlight CPV.
      • On the Ideas page, you'll find further information about Player Groups, Player Comparisons and CPV.

    • The Big Hall Debate ...
      • Throughout this site, you'll see information recommending HOF induction based on CPV. If you were to count, you would find more than just about anyone would be comfortable with. However, who's comfortable with Lloyd Waner and Harold Baines and Rick Ferrell and Bill Mazeroski, because they're all in. And with less than 9 CPV. If you want to think CPV is just out-of-whack, or you need to die on the hilll of WAR or WAA, then they all have less than 39 WAR and 7 WAA.
      • I would argue, Big Hall is preferable to leaving out players that are obviously deserving, like Bobby Grich, Lou Whitaker, Kenny Lofton and Reggie Smith. These four players have over 37 CPV (over 64 WAR and 37 WAA), and are on the outside looking in ... maybe forever.

    • The Wait Debate ...
      • Waiting until someone passes is too late to recognize deserving players, like Harry Heilmann or Ron Santo.
      • Would today really be too early to induct Mike Trout or Mookie Betts?
      • Okay, let's wait until they retire. But, if we use CPV, we can know right now. Trout and Betts and Paul Goldschmidt and even Aaron Judge, have already reached the CPV HOF Threshold (Top 30 at Position -OR- CPV 25+).
